The World According to Leather Eye

My maiden name is McNeill and my husband calls me Mac. An ancestor was called Leather Eye. I think it is a cool name. Better yet, the McNeill family motto is "Conquer or Die", or "Victory or Death" depending on the interpretation.

Life up to now- Sarah is almost to Iraq

Sarah Joy deployed Sunday, February 4, for Iraq. She can't tell the specific place. At this moment I think she is in Kuwait. Last time, she went, she trained for a few days before convoying into Iraq. I think this will be the same.
For those that don't know, (I didn't until now), she few for 8 hours to Germany. Had a lay over and then 8 more hours to Iraq. She was crammed on a regular airplane, with every seat filled. they had all their gear to keep up with. I hope she gets some rest before heading north.
Joe, Melissa, and her twins, SArah and Aubrey age 2 1/2 drove 8 hours to Ft. Riley to spend a few days with her before she left. I have to mention that she has only been home from Kuwait for 6 months. She also spent all of 2004 in Iraq. We had a great time. We visted the wizard of OZ museum. It was great. We strolled arm in arm through the forest and said, "Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY". The babies did not like it. But they liked everything else.

I am a Marathoner

Did you know that only 1 in 1,000,000 finish a marathon. Well, my daughter Melissa and I are 1 in a million. We finished the San Antonio Marathon November 12, 2006. This was taken just after the race. I was tired but excited to have finished.

Tagg, I've been tagged

Because I like to have pictures, this is picture taken about 20 years ago when it actually snowed in Albany, Texas. It is one of my favorite pictures. Pictured are Alan, Melissa, James and Tommy. I love the way Alan is peeking out from his tobogan.

I'VE JUST BEEN TAGGED
Melissa, mother of twin granddaughters sent this to me, so I decided to respond while I am waiting for it to be late enough to go to bed. :)

What was your favorite thing about being a kid? I was the middle of 7 kids. Two brothers and a sisters older and two brothers and a sister younger. Wait, I am suppose to say what was my favorite. It was NOT being the middle child. It was NOT being locked in the closet by my older siblings, just because they could. It was NOT being very small. I guess it was going to small school (8 in my grade) and getting to start playing basketball in 3rd grade and play in games. Not little dribblers, but real games, from September through April. I loved it.

What was your favorite subject in school? PE of course, because all we did was play basketball. I liked everything but Math. I really enjoyed Reading and History. I had exceptional teachers.

Who was your best friend when you turned 10? It had to be Marie Smith. She was the only girl in my class, but we would have been best friend had there been 100 girls.

If you could be any animal what would you be? A monkey so I could swing from trees.

What would you change about your school, occupation, or life right now? I love what I do. I am an Educational Diagnostician. I get to make a direct impact on children and parents lives.
I would change how much I drive. I would like to just "beam" to my work site, and not drive an hour.
What's your favorite color? red, blue and/or green. No reason.

What is your favorite type of crust and toppings? Thick crust cheese. Unless we are talking pie, then it is flaky with apple and ice cream, or flaky with cheese cake and chocolate and caramel and pecans.

My baby is almost home

Above is a picture of Sarah receiving an award from a general for doing what ever she does. She is a transportation officer. I am super proud of her.
Sarah, will be in the USA tomorrow. We are so excited. She will be flying to Ft. Riley, Kansas. We hope she comes to Texas soon. We won't see her for a while, but we can call her anytime we want. If she calls, we can call her back. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is when you can't do it.
Below is a picture of Sarah when she was around 2 years old. She loved to read even then.

What A Week

Remembering cooler weather

This is a picture of beautiful Colorado. I think it was taken near Vail. Joe and I rode his Harley to Rifle, Colorado in June. Weather was great, cool when we were in Colorado. When we hit Texas after 10 days in coolness, it was over 100 and has stayed that way.

WHAT A WEEK
MONDAY - I started the week working at a local day camp. A friend asked me if I would volunteer Monday because they were short handed. I spend the morning with 4 and 5 year olds. I was super tired.
MONDAY PM-THURSDAY - I packed my suitcase and headed to Fort Worth with my sister to attend an assistive technology (AT) conference. After 3 days of sitting in a conference room and shopping in the evening, I am "zhausted".

FRIDAY - I am going to Archer City, Texas to see my daughter in the musical Oklahoma. The picture below was in the Wichita Falls paper. All credit for photo and text go to the paper.

SATURDAY - To top off my exciting week, I am going to Canyon to my nephew wedding. (Zane P is the son of my older brother, Zane K. My brother died in 1997 at age 43. He would have been proud of his son. ) Canyon is about a 5 hour drive one way. We will spend all night and come home Sunday.
MONDAY is REST. Then TUESDAY is my first day of work for the 06-07 school year.
Whew, I am tired reading this.

Just another day in Paradise

No, I don't live in on a tropical island, but I live where I want to so it is paradise. I live close to my children and parents to make me happy. The one in Kuwait is not close, but she will be home in less than a month. Today I am going to do an assessment of a co worker. She is a teaching assistant at an elementary school. She is going to college and struggling. I think she has dyslexia so this afternoon I will so an assessment for her college.
Tomorrow is my daughters 10 year class reunion from high school. There will be a party and I will keep my granddaughters. My niece, Shannon, also graduated with the class of 96. I will keep her 3 boys, ages 6, 3, and 1. I could do it by myself, but my sister from Midland is coming to help. Really she just wants to spoil them. We will have fun.
